Notre Dame is reportedly expected to promote linebackers coach Clark Lea to defensive coordinator.

Clark Lea came over from Wake Forest along with now-former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko.

Notre Dame's defense improved significantly with Elko taking over in 2017. With him heading to Texas A&M (after receiving a massive contract offer for defensive coordinator), rather than look on the open market, Brian Kelly will likely promote Lea.

From Yahoo! Sports' Pete Thamel:

Lea joined the Wake Forest staff in 2016, after three years at Syracuse. He also previously coached linebackers at Bowling Green and UCLA. He is a Vanderbilt graduate, where he played fullback from 2002-2004.
