Dallas Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith Says He Expects To Make NFL Debut Week 1

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith appears to be making progress in his recovery.

A second-round pick out of Notre Dame in 2016, Jaylon Smith has yet to play a down for the Dallas Cowboys. The linebacker is still recovering from the devastating knee injury he suffered in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl, his final collegiate game.

There was talk that Smith would never be able to play again, but he told reporters today he expects to be on the field for Week 1 of the 2017 season.

Now, Smith will still be held out of rookie mini-camp, and there are doubts his damaged nerve will ever fully recover.

Still, it would be an incredible accomplishment to see Smith in uniform out on an NFL field.

And if it happens in Week 1, in prime-time, against the rival New York Giants? Even better.
