After losing to the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor last week, Notre Dame will be back in action in Week 10 against ACC contender Virginia Tech.

The Fighting Irish are 5-2 and ranked No. 16 in the nation following the Michigan loss. They still boast one of the best defenses in the nation, and have not lost a home game since September 2017.

As for Virginia Tech, the Hokies are 5-2 and riding a three-game winning streak against Miami, Rhode Island and North Carolina.

Nevertheless, Notre Dame going into this game as a heavy favorite. They are 17.5-point favorites at Notre Dame Stadium.

In ESPN analyst Bill Connelly's Notre Dame-Virginia Tech SP+ prediction, he has the Fighting Irish winning by double digits.

Connelly's system is predicting a 36-22 Notre Dame win in South Bend.

With so many of the top teams like LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Penn State all on byes, ND has a chance to make a major statement this week.

A win over a decent team like Virginia Tech could allow them to move up the rankings as those big teams stand idle.

But by the same token, Virginia Tech could move into the rankings with a win over the Irish. They received votes in the polls over the past few weeks, so a win over a top-15 team will almost certainly get them in.
