Notre Dame is reportedly dismissing defensive line coach Keith Gilmore.
Gilmore, who coached the d-line at Notre Dame the last two seasons after arriving from North Carolina, appears to be the latest casualty of an evolving Fighting Irish staff. Notre Dame already has a new defensive coordinator, new special teams coordinator and still has to hire an offensive coordinator.
Sheldon Day starred on the defensive line for the Irish in 2015, and apparently he was quite fond of Gilmore. He tweeted at Brian Kelly tonight asking why his former position coach wasn't retained.
Notre Dame's defense struggled for much of this season, and Gilmore's defensive linemen registered just three sacks.
With new DC Mike Elko likely looking to revamp the staff, it's not surprising some changes would be made.
Update: For what it is worth, Football Scoop says reports of Gilmore's dismissal might not be accurate.
Guess we'll find out soon what the truth is.
