Notre Dame fans are mourning the loss of a former Fighting Irish defensive lineman tonight. Kona Schwenke has passed away at 25.
Schwenke played for the Irish from 2010-13 before embarking on a short NFL career. He helped Notre Dame reach the 2012 BCS National Championship Game.
Details on Schwenke's death are scarce right now. It sounds like the death was unexpected.
Former Notre Dame wide receiver Robby Toma posted a heartfelt tribute to Schwenke on Instagram.
"God has a plan. We will tell the stories of how things were different with you. I love you my brother. Thank you for everything over the years. I am grateful for the time we got to spend with you on earth. My heart hurts but I know the memories we have will last a lifetime. _\,,/ look over us my USO. My prayers are with my Schwenke Family."
Our thoughts and prayers are with Schwenke's family and friends, as well as the Notre Dame football family.
