Gunner Kiel will finally play college football. The former five-star recruit and the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2012 was named the starter for the University of Cincinnati's season-opener on Sept. 12 against Toledo by Bearcats head coach Tommy Tuberville.

Kiel's road to Cincy has been well documented, but for those unaware, he was one of the top recruits in America two years ago, and was so good that he garnered comparisons to future NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. The Indiana native originally committed to LSU in December of 2011, but less than one month later, he decommitted from the Tigers and enrolled at Notre Dame.
After one year in South Bend, Kiel decided to transfer, and eventually decided on Cincinnati over several other schools. After sitting out a year because of the NCAA's transfer rules, Kiel will finally suit up this weekend. We'll see if the 21-year-old former star recruit was worth waiting for when the game against Toledo kicks off at 7:00 P.M.
