Notre Dame constantly receives criticism for its schedule, but defeating Syracuse this weekend would certainly erase any doubt. Luckily for the Fighting Irish, the status of quarterback Ian Book bodes well for this matchup.

Last weekend, the Fighting Irish started Brandon Wimbush against Florida State. Book was dealing with a rib injury, which was clearly serious enough to hold him out of action.

However, those restrictions are now gone, and Notre Dame will have its athletic quarterback on the field for Saturday. In fact, Brian Kelly couldn't help but rave about his gunslinger's production in practice.

From Notre Dame Insider:

“We wouldn’t have played him if we had to put him in bubble wrap,” Kelly said of his No. 1 quarterback after Thursday’s practice inside the Loftus Center. “You just can’t play a quarterback under those conditions.”

“I think he’s had a good week,” Kelly said. “Normal rust on Tuesday, but Wednesday ran the offense effectively, and then (Thursday) just settled in as if he had not had a week off. (Thursday) was a really good day.”

Through seven games this season, Book has 1,824 passing yards, 218 rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns.

It'll be hard to find a better game this weekend, as both teams desperately need to win this game. With Eric Dungey and Book leading their respective offenses, Syracuse and Notre Dame should live up to the hype.

Kickoff for this game is set for 2:30 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium.
