Notre Dame defensive end Jonathon MacCollister announced he'll transfer on Friday.

Jonathon MacCollister, a freshman defensive end at Notre Dame who was ranked as a three-star recruit out of high school last year, has announced that he'll be leaving the Fighting Irish after one season to transfer to UCF. MacCollister, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound player, announced the news on Twitter on Friday afternoon.

MacCollister, who enrolled at Notre Dame this past June, says that he'll be making a position change, playing tight end at UCF. He was a class of 2017 player. He had no ill will towards the Fighting Irish in his post:

"I would like to thank the University of Notre Dame and Coach Kelly and his coaching staff for giving me an amazing opportunity to be part of one of the best institutions in the country. I would also like to thank my teammates for accepting me into their family and treating me like their brother from day one, and to me they will always be my brothers. I would also like to thank all the friends I've made up at Notre Dame especially Alumni Hall for being amazing and caring people.......That being said after much thought and prayer, and talking it over with my love ones.......I would like to announce that I will be transferring and coming home to play TE for the University of Central Florida. #ChargeOn

I will not be doing interviews about this decision......Thank you and God bless

-Jonathon McCollister"
