Newly-appointed Miami head coach Manny Diaz appears eager to restore The U to glory. One of his first tasks as head coach looks to be improving at the quarterback position, and it looks like Georgia’s Justin Fields could be on his radar.
According to the Miami Herald, the University of Miami has a lot of interest in the 5-star Georgia quarterback, who is expected to transfer next season.
Fields was one of several quarterbacks listed as potential targets for Diaz’s team.
Over the last month, since it was revealed that Fields was exploring a transfer, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been considered a strong contender for the highly-touted quarterback.
247Sports rated Fields as the No. 2 overall prospect, and the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2018.
Diaz took over at Miami following the surprise retirement of head coach Mark Richt. He had previously committed to taking over as head coach of Temple, but took the Miami job when it opened weeks later.
From the report:
Reports circulated in December that he was considering transferring, but there’s no indication if he actually will. UM has strong interest. He was rated the No. 2 overall prospect and No. 1 dual-threat quarterback out of the prep ranks in 2018. Ohio State is considered a strong contender.
Fields isn’t the only name the Herald listed as potential solutions for the Hurricanes at QB. Potential Notre Dame graduate transfer Brandon Wimbush also made the cut, though there is no indication of mutual interest there yet.
Miami finished the 2018 season at 7-6, with a loss in the Pinstripe Bowl.
