While a number of college football powers recruit nationally, Notre Dame is pretty unique in how wit scours the country for talent. Sometimes, that even means dipping into SEC territory.
Kristian Story is a four-star safety from Alabama. His hometown of Lanett is just over 30 minutes from Auburn and about three hours from Tuscaloosa.
As you can probably guess, the Crimson Tide are given a great shot to be the pick for Story. All six analysts that have made a prediction in the 247 crystal ball believe he will commit to Nick Saban and company.
However, he sounds very interested in Notre Dame.
Kristian Story visited Notre Dame in the fall, and continues to have weekly contact with the Fighting Irish staff, namely safeties coach Terry Joseph.
Story says he speaks with Joseph and other Notre Dame staff talk multiple times a week, and that Notre Dame’s combination of football and academics “separates” the schools from the other major programs recruiting him.
Battling his in-state Crimson Tide along with programs in the South in Clemson, Florida State, and Georgia along with his national offers in Penn State, Oregon, Texas A&M, and others certainly creates a daunting task for Joseph.
Even so, according to Story, Notre Dame offers crucial characteristics that programs in the South simply do not.
“Notre Dame separates itself from everybody because there is no combination like them with football and academically,” Story said. “So, they separate from everybody.”
Kristian Story is ranked No. 117 in the class of 2020. 247’s composite rankings have him at No. 9 among athletes, and No. 3 in Alabama.
He stars at quarterback and safety for Lanett High School, but is projecting as a safety at the next level. Last fall, he finished the season of 33 tackles and nine interceptions.
