No. 21 Notre Dame Falls To No. 22 Marquette In Bradley Center

Marquette cruised in this one.

Score: Marquette 72, Notre Dame 64

Stars:Marquette Chris Otule 16 Pts, 4 Reb, 2 Blks. Notre Dame Jerian Grant 21 Pts, 7 Reb, 5 Ast.

Story: This one was never very close. Marquette got off to a hot start in the Bradley Center, making their first five field goal attempts and never looking back. The Irish appeared to be a bit stunned when trailing 18-6 just several minutes in, and once again struggled to find much offensive identity. Notre Dame center and Big East Player of the Year candidate Jack Cooley was battling illness and played very few minutes which definitely contributed to the Irish's struggles.

In Cooley's absence, Mike Brey turned to veteran big man Garrick Sherman without much success. Sherman will look to forget this game as quickly as possible, recording zero points and only two rebounds in 19 minutes of playing time. Freshman forward Zach Auguste did manage a nice 15 points, but most of it came a little too late.

While Notre Dame struggled offensively, that was certainly not the case for the Golden Eagles. Marquette shot a blistering 59.6% from the field, led by Jamil Wilson who scored 19 points. If that wasn't enough, Chris Otule had his way with Notre Dame, making all eight of his attempted shots.

Notre Dame never let the deficit really get out of hand, but couldn't shrink the lead to less than eight points the whole second half.

Even with the loss, Notre Dame remains in 4th place in the Big East standings, right behind Marquette. The Irish will return home for Senior Night vs St. John's on Tuesday.
