Notre Dame added a cornerback recruit to its 2020 class Monday night with the commitment of Middletown (N.J.) Mater Dei three-star prospect Clarence Lewis.

Lewis announced his commitment on Twitter last night. He chose the Fighting Irish after a weekend official visit to South Bend.

The No. 17 rising senior in the state of New Jersey, Lewis is the 12th commitment for Notre Dame in the class of 2020. He's the second Garden State recruit in the fold, joining Red Bank Catholic four-star tight end Kevin Bauman.

"I'd like to thank all the schools that extended scholarship offers to me," Lewis wrote. "With that being said I am grateful and extremely excited to announce that I will be attending the University of Notre Dame!"

Currently, Notre Dame's 2020 recruiting class ranks among the best nationally. The Fighting Irish check in at No. 6 in 247Sports' composite standings.

Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Miami (Fla.) comprise the top five.
