Earlier today, UCF named Notre Dame transfer Brandon Wimbush its starting quarterback. Wimbush will make his debut for the Knights next week against Florida A&M.

Wimbush announced his decision to leave Notre Dame shortly after last season. Even though he's no longer with the Fighting Irish, his former program hasn't forgotten him.

The official Notre Dame football Twitter account sent Wimbush a congratulatory tweet this afternoon.

"Congrats, @WimbushB7! We’re rooting for you. #GoIrish," it said.

Wimbush arrived at Notre Dame in 2015 as one of the top quarterback prospects in the country. His tenure in South Bend was an up-and-down one.

After waiting his turn for two years, Wimbush was named the starter for the 2017 season, but he struggled with accuracy despite producing 30 total touchdowns and nine wins in 12 starts.

Wimbush began last season as the starter but was replaced by Ian Book in Week 4. Still, he never complained and remained a well-respected member of the team.

When Notre Dame needed Wimbush to start against Florida State because Book was injured, he stepped up and provided a strong performance on Senior Night in his final home game. All things considered, it is great to see the Irish continuing to support him.

Hopefully he can finish his college career on a high note with the Knights.
