Report: Notre Dame To Hire Memphis' Chip Long As Offensive Coordinator

Notre Dame has reportedly hired Chip Long with a three-year deal as offensive coordinator for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame has a new offensive coordinator at the helm, per a report from Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports. Memphis offensive coordinator Chip Long is set to take over for the Fighting Irish, despite also receiving plenty of interest from other Power 5 programs.

In Long's first season as OC for Memphis, the Tigers averaged 39 points per game, good enough for No. 16 in the nation, and the second-most points per game in school history. Against ranked opponents, the Tigers averaged 6.7 yards per play, seventh-best in the country.

Long will definitely have his work cut out for him. The Fighting Irish ranked No. 47 in the nation in points per game, averaging 30.9, and in total offense they ranked No. 62. Pretty mediocre for a program that came into the season ranked in the top 10.

Hopefully, Long will be able to provide the spark to get Notre Dame back in title contention, after what was certainly a forgettable year for the Fighting Irish.
