Notre Dame OL Steve Elmer Leaves Football Team For Other Opportunities

Notre Dame's offensive line took a hit Tuesday afternoon when one of its starters announced that he will leave the team to pursue other opportunities.

Steve Elmer, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive guard who has started 27 consecutive games for the Irish, announced Tuesday that he will no longer play football after he graduates in May, deciding to forego his senior season of eligibility.

According to 247 Sports' Tom Loy, he received a job offer he could not turn down. Notre Dame's release goes on to explain that Elmer served as a Congressional intern in Washington, D.C. to John Moolenaar, who represents Michigan's Fourth District, last summer.

It'll be tough for Notre Dame fans to see him go.
