Notre Dame players reacted to Mike Elko's departure.

On Thursday afternoon, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko departed the Fighting Irish to join Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies, after the Aggies failed to poach LSU's Dave Aranda from the Tigers.

Elko has been one of the hottest assistants in the country after his string of success at Bowling Green and Wake Forest. He'll receive a hefty pay raise, up to a reported $1.8 million per season.

Notre Dame players and recruits were left with several questions.

At least one recruit wasn't worried about Elko's departure, however. 4-star safety Derrik Allen put the move into perspective.

Notre Dame finished the season with a 21-17 victory over LSU. The Fighting Irish will need to secure a new defensive coordinator, though Brian Kelly should have no trouble finding Elko's replacement.
