After a brutal loss to Michigan this past week, Notre Dame looks to get a quick turnaround as they return to South Bend to host Virginia Tech.
The Fighting Irish are 5-2 on the season, and essentially out of the national championship conversation. Both of those losses have come on the road, while Notre Dame Stadium has been a fortress for the Irish. They have not lost a home game since September 2017.
The Hokies enter the game with an identical 5-2 record, though they have yet to play a ranked opponent. In fact, two of Virginia Tech’s five wins have come against FCS teams. In ACC play, the Hokies are 2-2 with their wins coming by a combined nine points.
Interestingly enough, Virginia Tech was the last unranked team to beat Notre Dame in South Bend, doing so in November 2016. But that doesn’t bother the bettors, who have installed the Irish as double-digit favorites.

Here are the details for the game:
Game Time: 2:30 PM ET
Spread: Notre Dame -17.5
Announcers: Mike Tirico, Doug Flutie, Chris Simms, Kathryn Tappen
A win in this game really won’t do much for either team except maybe lift the Hokies into the AP polls next week, should they win.
As for Notre Dame, their schedule doesn’t include any currently ranked teams moving forward. Losing even a single game from this point on would be a major disappointment.
