Players can make or lose themselves money with their performance at the NFL Scouting Combine. Chase Claypool is earning some cash tonight.
The Notre Dame wide receiver checked in at 6-foot-4, 238 pounds during official weigh-ins earlier today. He put up 19 reps on the bench press and registered a 40.5-inch vertical leap.
But it was in the 40-yard dash where Claypool really put on a show. Claypool’s 4.42 time in the 40 wasn’t just impressive; it put him in elite company.
The only other wide receiver to ever clock a sub-4.45 40-yard dash at Claypool’s size is former Detroit Lions star Calvin Johnson. That’s not bad company at all.
Here’s a look at Claypool’s official effort in the 40.

Given his speed and size, with a strong performance during drills and further evaluation from scouts, Claypool could vault himself into consideration for a late first-round pick. At the very least, he should be an intriguing Day 2 option for teams come April.
In 2019, Claypool caught 66 passes for 1,037 yards and 13 touchdowns for an 11-2 Fighting Irish team. For his career, he caught 19 scores while also playing an active role on special teams.
