It looks like quarterback Malik Zaire wasn't the only player Notre Dame lost for the season due to injury in Saturday's win over Virginia.
According to Irish Illustrated's Pete Sampson, red-shirt sophomore tight end Durham Smythe will miss the remainder of the year after suffering an ankle injury vs. the Cavaliers.

Rough blow for the Fighting Irish, who have now lost three offensive starters for the season in the first two weeks. Running back Tarean Folston went down with a season-ending ACL injury in the opening night win over Texas.
With Smythe out of commission, Notre Dame will have to depend mostly on red-shirt freshman Nic Weishar, sophomore Tyler Luatua and true freshman Aliz'e Jones to shoulder the load at tight end.
