With Notre Dame struggling at 2-4 and possibly missing a bowl game for the first time since 2009, the heat has been turned up on Brian Kelly.
Several people have suggested Notre Dame move on from Kelly, who is who is currently 57-27 in six-plus seasons in South Bend. You can count FS1's Joel Klatt as someone who is firmly in the "Fire Brian Kelly" camp.
In an appearance on FS1's "Speak for Yourself" yesterday, Klatt offered heavy criticism of Kelly. He called him out for being selfish and shielding himself from criticism, but he didn't stop there.
Klatt stated that Kelly is "not a marquee coach" and that if Notre Dame had one, they would be in the national title conversation. Klatt then went on to suggest a replacement for Kelly: former Rutgers head coach and current Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano.
You can watch the full clip, which includes Colin Cowherd, Jason McIntyre and Jason Whitlock, below.
Perhaps more interesting than Klatt's denunciation of Kelly is his high praise for Schiano. Remember, he also said yesterday he would hire Schiano over Houston's Tom Herman, the hottest name on the coaching market.
Schiano had success at Rutgers and is leading an elite defense at OSU, so he'll likely get another chance at a head coaching gig. However, it would be hard to see Notre Dame taking him over Kelly, and for what it's worth, Kelly has a 3-0 record against Schiano lifetime.
Either way, Kelly could do a lot to alleviate some of the heat he's feeling by leading his team to a win over Stanford on Saturday. The Cardinal could be without star Christian McCaffrey.
Another loss would drop the Irish to 2-5, and the temperature of the Brian Kelly hot seat might reach nuclear levels.
