Adam Schefter Trolls Stephen A. Smith Over His First Pitch
Andy Reid accomplished all anyone can hope for when throwing out a ceremonial first pitch. He didn't embarrass himself.
The Kansas City Chiefs head coach brought the Lombardi Trophy to Kauffman Stadium on Opening Day for the Kansas City Royals. While it wasn't the prettiest pitch, Reid got the ball to Royals legend George Brett.
Not every public figure survives a first pitch without becoming the subject of humiliation. Adam Schefter used Reid's first pitch to mock an ESPN colleague.
The NFL insider noted that Reid's pitch was "superior" to Stephen A. Smith's first pitch at Yankee Stadium last September.
Smith's pitch wasn't as bad as one would think based on the unrelenting ridicule from Schefter and other ESPN colleagues. However, the First Take star bounced the baseball short of home plate.
"Warming up down there, I was throwing strikes from 60 feet away," Smith said. "And I got on the mound, and it looked like it was a mile away. I said, 'What the h--l am I doing here?' I mean, there's no excuse. It was a choke job."
At the time, Schefter claimed Smith's first pitch "might rival 50 Cent’s first pitch at Citi Field." That's a massive exaggeration, as the rapper nearly hit a camera operator standing multiple feet off the plate.
Smith also tossed his pitch from the pitcher's mound. Reid, on the other hand, wasn't trying to be a hero.
The 66-year-old stood on the grass and casually tossed it to Brett. He'll avoid the same ridicule as Smith or Chiefs star Travis Kelce, who spiked the ball worse than Stephen A. last April.
