Breaking: White Sox, Red Sox Finalizing Blockbuster Offseason Trade

After whiffing in the Max Fried and Juan Soto sweepstakes, the Boston Red Sox turned their attention over to the trade market. Though a deal hasn't been completed just yet, it sounds like they're about to bolster their starting rotation in a major way.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Red Sox are finalizing a trade to acquire Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. The left-hander is coming off the best season of his career. He finished the 2024 season with a 3.58 ERA and 209 strikeouts. In a lost season for the franchise, he gave the fans hope every time he stepped on the mound. Now, he's on the verge of taking his talents to Beantown.

"The deal is in the medical phase," Passan added. "Not official, but trending toward it."

Crochet, 25, was linked to several teams in trade talks, including the New York Yankees and New York Mets. We'd have to imagine the Red Sox feel good about beating the Bronx Bombers in these sweepstakes.

The official terms of the trade have not yet been announced. Judging by a recent report from Tom Verducci, the Red Sox probably gave up an arm and a leg.

“The Sox have stuck by their high asking price ever since they put him on the market at the trade deadline,” Verducci wrote. “Said one high-ranking source of a team that was interested in Crochet, ‘We’re out. They wanted three of our top prospects. Three. We can’t do that.'”

There's some chatter about Boston shipping out prospect Kyle Teel in order to land Crochet. That hasn't been confirmed yet.

With Crochet heading to the Red Sox, it's fair to wonder if they're out on Corbin Burnes. Maybe, just maybe, they'll continue their pursuit and try to build out an elite rotation.

All we know is Boston clearly wants to make a huge splash this winter.
