MLB World Reacts To Crushing Dodgers Injury News
The news on Gavin Lux's injury isn't promising for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lux got carted off the field after suffering a gruesome right knee injury during Monday's spring training game. According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the 25-year-old infielder is expected to be sidelined for "a long time."
A source told Olney the injury is "bad."
Fans feel awful for Lux, who was poised to receive a brighter spotlight this season.
"Absolutely hate to see this," a fan wrote. "Awful."
"My heart is broken for him," another fan said.
"Gavin Lux finally gets the opportunity to play shortstop and prove himself, and he gets hurt in a freak accident during spring training," a Dodgers fan lamented. "Absolutely terrible."
"It looked really bad," Stacey Gotsulias said of Lux's injury. "Legs are not supposed to do that."
"Hate seeing this," a fan wrote. "Praying for a speedy recovery."
Following a promising season in which he posted a .346 on-base percentage, Lux was slated to replace Trea Turner as the Dodgers' full-time starting shortstop. The 25-year-old added muscle during the offseason and reportedly picked up bat speed while working at Driveline Baseball.
Lux's injury halts what many believed could be a breakout year. It also leaves a typically stacked Dodgers lineup far more top-heavy than usual.
Barring another move, veteran acquisition Miguel Rojas could now receive significant playing time for a Dodgers team seeking its 11th straight playoff appearance.
The team has yet to provide an official update on Lux's status.
