Hurricane Helene Is Causing Major Problems For The MLB Playoffs
Hurricane Helene is set to hit the United States on Thursday and the powerful storm is already causing some issues for the Major League Baseball postseason.
The New York Mets were set to play at the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. The two teams in the NL Wild Card hunt are set to play on Thursday, too. However, due to the incoming hurricane, the games are being postponed. This is a pretty big problem for Major League Baseball. The season is supposed to end on Monday and, currently, just one game separates the two teams in the NL Wild Card standings. New York is 0.5 games up on the Diamondbacks for the second Wild Card, while Atlanta trails Arizona by 0.5 games for the third Wild Card.
Now, the games are being pushed back.
On Wednesday afternoon, Major League Baseball decided to postpone both games to Monday, the day after the regular season was supposed to end and one day before the postseason is scheduled to start.
"The Mets-Braves games today and tomorrow have been postponed, The Post has learned," Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported on Wednesday.
"The plan is to play a doubleheader on Monday."
A Monday double-header with the postseason on the line will be fun, but it'll be pretty brutal for the two teams, especially with a potential Game 1 of the Wild Card series against San Diego approaching on Tuesday.
