Manny Machado Failed At Recreating Epic Bo Jackson Bat Snap
It's been a frustrating Opening Day for Manny Machado.
His San Diego Padres are winning against the San Francisco Giants, but he's 0-3 in his first game of the season on American soil.
After a particularly frustrating plate appearance on Thursday, Machado attempted to break his bat over his thigh like Bo Jackson did back in June of 1989.
Machado was unsuccessful, with the bat refusing to budge as he tried to snap it over his leg.
The Padres are actually playing their third game of the regular season after splitting two games with the Los Angeles Dodgers last week in Seoul, South Korea.
Machado attempted to carry some of his momentum from his last game, where he hit a three-run home run in a 15-11 win over the Dodgers, but it seems he wasn't able to keep his bat at the same temperature after changing time zones.
The Padres are beginning the American portion of their schedule with a four-game set at home against the NL West rival Giants, then they'll welcome the St. Louis Cardinals to Petco Park before going on the road to San Francisco.
The Padres are looking to bounce back after an 82-80 season in which they failed to make the playoffs despite spending a ton of money on their roster.
Juan Soto is now in New York with the Yankees and Blake Snell is in San Francisco, leaving the likes of Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Xander Bogaerts to figure things out.
The Dodgers are still the standard in the NL West, and the Padres will need to figure out how to clear that hurdle again if they've got any hopes of competing with the elite teams in the majors this season.
