It's been a difficult season for the New York Mets. The team is eight games under .500 and is in fourth place in the National League East.

That's a far cry from the World Series contenders that many expected, especially after New York spent a lot of money on top-dollar free agents.

The poor form from the Mets has apparently extended to the crew inside of Citi Field, as displayed by this mistake made at the ballpark on Wednesday night.

Instead of displaying reliever T.J. McFarland's last name on the scoreboard, the board simply read the placeholder of "LASTNAME."

It appeared to be a sign of things to come for the Mets, who would go on to lose Wednesday night's game to the Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 5-2.

The Mets have lost seven of their last 10 games as they look to make up ground in either the NL East or NL Wild Card race.

It's unlikely that they'll turn things around in time to compete for the division with the Braves among the best teams in baseball, but the Wild Card is still technically possible.

Steve Cohen may be one of the biggest spenders in baseball, but it appears that even his wealth won't be able to solve all of the Mets' problems.
