Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews has always been a lightning rod for controversy, for a number of reasons that'll take too long to get into here. But we're not sure that she really deserves the over-the-top lashing she got this morning on Boston radio program The Dennis and Callahan Morning Show. One of the show's co-hosts, Kirk Minihane, was apparently very disgusted with Andrews' negative comment regarding social media after last night's Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He proceeded to call her a "gutless bitch" and make fun of her for her probiotics commercials. One of the other hosts also chimed in, calling her a "bimbo" and a "bubblehead". It seems that on top of thinking that she isn't very good at her job, they just flat out don't like her.
Here's the short version of the story. Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, playfully mentioned that he might have thrown New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, playing in his last All-Star game, some meatballs in his first plate appearance (which Jeter singled during). Later, he retracted that statement, after his comment supposedly blew up on Twitter. Andrews, after asking him about it all, took a jab at social media, seemingly blaming the public instead of Wainwright.
Via Sports Grid, here's video. The fun begins around 40 seconds in.
As you'd imagine, there will be consequences here. It's one thing to present a reasonable argument regarding why you do or don't agree with what something that a reporter did. It's another to hurl sexist insults and personally attack her.
