Scoop: There are some big conference shakeups in college sports today, and no, I’m not talking about the collapse of the BIG EAST. Monmouth and Quinnipac will be leaving the Northeast Conference.
Significance: Mainly, it’s just exciting to talk about conference realignment. Monmouth has made the NCAA Tournament four times in its history, so the school is fairly competitive.
Story: The MAAC is looking to expand, and will add Monmouth and Quinnipac as they ditch the Northeast Conference. The MAAC will now have 11 teams (Loyola of Maryland is departing for the Patriot League) and may be looking to add another school.
Northeast Conference confirms Quinnipiac and Monmouth will leave the league to join the MAAC on June 30, 2013.
