Yes, the dog in the IAMS commercial is named “Duck.”
Well, kinda. If you work in sports, there’s a pretty good chance that ESPN is on all day, every day in your office. This is the case in our newsroom, at least. But even if you casually flip on the Worldwide Leader every now and then, you are all too familiar with an IAMS commercial that they’ve got playing on heavy rotation. We are talking serious advertising dollars here because the ad is scheduled literally during every break.
It’s a charming, coming-of-age tale of a boy and his dog named “Duck.” ….wait, what? We have a lot of questions. First and foremost – is the dog’s name Duck… or is it, Doug? Maybe it’s Dog?
Second – if it really is Duck, why? It turns out the answer is available on the internet – because of course it is.
The answer to the greatest mystery of our time lies in the extended version of the ad, which you can watch below:
As you see, this is actually a short film about a young man who grows up with his dog always by his side.
It turns out the boy had difficulty saying the name “Duke” when he was a toddler. That’s why the dog, oddly enough, is named Duck.
Amazingly, on YouTube, the ad, which is almost three years old, has been viewed over 21 million times. That’s a lot for an ad that we assume never really went viral.
Some bonds are truly unbreakable. Like the one between a boy and his dog Duck. To keep him healthy and active at every stage of life, there’s IAMS. Ideal nutrition so you can always look forward to what’s next.
So there you have it – the dog’s name is Duck and not Doug.
