When Phil Mickelson announced that he would be taking time away from the PGA Tour to spend time with his family, many suspected that Mickelson might not have the skill to compete at a high level anymore.

But the six-time major winner pretty much dashed that narrative with a video today. Footage from the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club shows Mickelson hitting the ball with a ton of power earlier this week.

"Rumors of Phil Mickelson’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. He had plenty of speed yesterday at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club," the video's poster wrote.

Golf fans were thrilled to see Mickelson hitting the ball once again. Some are wondering if it means he's on his way back to full strength:

2021 saw Phil Mickelson reassert himself as one of the all-time greats when he won the PGA Championship. He became the oldest golfer to win a major and ended a two-year drought on the PGA Tour, as well as an eight-year drought at the majors.

Mickelson would end 2021 on another high note with two PGA Tour Championship wins, including the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

But Mickelson began 2022 with some controversy involving comments made about Saudi Arabia. He lost several high-profile sponsors and later announced he would be stepping away from the PGA Tour for a time.

Perhaps this video is the first sign that Phil Mickelson is on his way back.
