Former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez has reportedly emerged as a candidate to buy the New York Mets.
According to a report from the New York Post, A-Rod kicked “the tires” on making a bid for the team. The news comes after billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen backed out of a deal to buy the team.
The deal between Cohen and the Wilpons fell apart after Cohen reportedly made a last-minute request that the Wilpons give up their “five-year plan,”giving Cohen complete control. After the deal dissipated, A-Rod’s interest in the team reportedly escalated.

His former teammate Derek Jeter handed out $25 million along with 15 other investors to reach a $1.2 billion deal for the Miami Marlins. The deal made him the controlling partner and CEO of the organization.
