Last night, the Chicago Cubs made history, snapping their 108-year World Series drought. After the game, ESPN aired an amazing new Cubs SportsCenter commercial.
In the clip, anchor Jay Harris erases a "years since the Cubs last won the World Series" whiteboard, which is next to a "days since last injury," and hilariously, a "years since last butt fumble" sign. Poor New York Jets.
Expect to see this one a few hundred times over the next few weeks. SportsCenter commercials are usually pretty great, and this one is pretty awesome.
The Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in an incredibly dramatic 10th inning game, finishing things after a rain delay following the ninth inning. Ben Zobrist doubled in the go-ahead run to make it 7-6, and Miguel Montero singled in an insurance run, which wound up being incredibly valuable. Rajai Davis, a hero from earlier in the game when he tied things up with a two-run home run, cut the Cubs lead to 8-7 with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, but Cubs' reliever Mike Montgomery came in and forced Michael Martinez to ground out to end the game.
