Mere months after breaking up with longtime partner Alex Rodriguez, music icon Jennifer Lopez got engaged to former flame and Hollywood actor Ben Affleck. Naturally, people have wanted to get A-Rod's reaction to the news.
Michael Kay of ESPN New York and the YES Network was more than happy to oblige. He got his chance during yesterday's Yankees-Red Sox game.
During yesterday's edition of the KayRod Cast, Kay took a dig at A-Rod's love life by talking about "people getting engaged" amid this "great time in sports". It took a few moments for Kay's trolling to sink in, but when it did, the payoff was perfect.
“It’s a great time in sports,” Kay said. “We have a new Masters champion. The NBA playoffs are about to start. Baseball in full swing. People getting engaged! It’s a happy time in the world.”
A-Rod smiled when it finally clicked for him, prompting a massive laugh from Kay:
Alex Rodriguez began dating Jennifer Lopez in 2017 with the two getting engaged in 2019. The two became high-profile business partners in a number of ventures.
However, the two announced the end of their engagement in April 2021. Soon after, Lopez was reportedly dating Ben Affleck, her partner from 2002 to 2004. The two confirmed their relationship had resumed last July and Affleck recently proposed.
As a result, A-Rod is single once again. But he'll probably be the butt of jokes for a very long time.
