Baltimore Orioles superstar Manny Machado has been the subject of plenty of trade speculation. The team has bottomed out this year, sitting at 20-50.
Machado is one of the best players in all of baseball. He is also an unrestricted free agent at year's end.
Naturally, rather than lose him, the O's will be looking for a huge haul for the 25-year old superstar. We now know one team that could be in the running.
According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Arizona Diamondbacks are in talks with the Orioles about a Manny Machado trade.
He reported as much moments ago via Twitter:
Machado has spent his entire career in Baltimore, making his debut for the team in 2012. He is a three-time All-Star for the club, earning spots on the American League team in 2013, 2015, and 2016.
Machado is a stand-out both offensively and defensively. He has hit over 30 home runs the last three seasons, and is on his way again in 2018, with 18 through 69 games.
This year, he is currently hitting .310, with a .567 slugging percentage, and .377 on-base percentage. All would be career highs.
The Diamondbacks would add one of the best players in the sport to a first-place team. They are currently at the top of the NL West at 40-32, 1.5 games up on a Dodgers team that continues to bounce back from a dreadful start to the season.
This type of deal could make Arizona a legitimate contender for a World Series run. Expect plenty of other franchises to try and get involved, as we near the trade deadline.
