Today was supposed to be Opening Day of the 2020 MLB season. Instead, baseball, like all American sports, has been shelved due to coronavirus.
We don’t know when, or if, the new season will get underway. If you’re struggling right now without the national pastime, Mike Trout has a message for you.
This afternoon, Trout released a message as part of MLB’s #OpeningDayAtHome initiative to get people to comply with social distancing and stay-at-home decrees. Trout narrated a minute-long PSA directed at baseball fans, preaching the ability to be united in this time of crisis.
“Opening Day may be postponed, but unity, hope and community don’t have to be,” Trout said. “Even though we are apart, we can come together.”

Hopefully, for the sake of the country as a whole, we are able to get the COVID-19 pandemic under control in the coming weeks and months. The lives of many people are at stake.
If and when that happens, it would be great to see baseball return. Fans could use that sense of normalcy and familiarity.
In the meantime, stay home and stay safe everyone.
