MLB Star's Ex-Wife Accuses Him Of Physical, Mental Abuse

The ex-wife of Chicago Cubs' shortstop Addison Russell opened up about allegations of physical and mental abuse against the MLB star. Russell's ex-wife, Melisa Reidy-Russell, detailed the allegations in a blog post earlier in the week.

In the post, Reidy-Russell wrote that she suffered from physical and mental abuse during the couple's two-year marriage. The post comes in the wake of previous allegations made public by a friend of Reidy-Russell's that triggered an MLB investigation into Russell.

That investigation remains open.

Reidy Russell detailed her reaction to the first signs of abuse.

"The first time I was physically mistreated by my spouse, I was in shock. I couldn’t wrap my head around what just happened…Why did he get so angry? What did I do for him to want to put his hands on me? Of course I forgave him & assumed it would never happen again. I just thought he had let his emotions get the best of him, he loves me and he’s sorry. I was deeply hurt that he could even be capable of this behavior towards me, I couldn’t understand how the man I was so in love with, the FATHER of my child, the man I married just a few months ago could show such aggression towards me..."

The post continues, highlighting the warning signs she believes she should have seen. You can read the full post here.

Major League Baseball opened an investigation into Russell in June 2017 after Reidy-Russell accused him of cheating in an Instagram post and the friend mentioned earlier accused Russell of abuse.

However, nothing came of the investigation after Reidy Russell allegedly declined to cooperate with baseball investigators.

Addison Russell denied the allegations when they were made in 2017.
