On Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals clinched the National League Championship Series by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals with a 7-4 win.
Immediately after the win, fans all had the same thought in mind – Bryce Harper. Months after leaving the Nationals, Harper watched as the team swept the Cardinals to cinch a spot in the World Series.
Following the Nationals win, the club’s Twitter account took a not-so-veiled shot Harper.
“We want to bring a title back to D.C.” the club wrote.

So why is that a shot at Harper?
Well, Harper signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies – keeping him in the NL East after his run with the Nationals. The deal made Harper the highest-paid player in the game, for a short time until Mike Trout signed a new megadeal.
During his introductory press conference, Harper attempted to give Phillies fans some hype heading into the season. The star outfielder said he hopes to bring a title back to D.C.
The slip of the tongue quickly went viral on Twitter, but the story calmed down in recent months. After the Nationals won the National League, the team revived Harper’s misstep with an incredible post.
Washington awaits the winner of the Houston Astros-New York Yankees series.
