All season long in MLB, we’ve seen pitchers taking exception to hitters admiring or showing off after they hit home runs. We have another example of that today.
In this afternoon’s edition of the Los Angeles Dodgers-San Francisco Giants rivalry, the Dodgers’ Max Muncy blasted a long first-inning home run off Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. The ball landed in the water outside Oracle Park.
Muncy didn’t flip his bat, but he did stylishly stare the ball down before beginning his home run trot. Bumgarner was not happy about it either.
He immediately began jawing with Muncy, who returned the favor as he rounded first base. Umpires stepped in before there were further fireworks.
Muncy added some parting shots as he made his way home.

In all honesty, this wasn’t even that much showmanship by Muncy at all. Bumgarner has a history of being mad at hitters who show some flare after they homer off him though. Just ask Yasiel Puig, Muncy’s former teammate.
Bumgarner will have another opportunity or two to face Muncy today. It will be interesting to see what he does against him.
Does he brush him back at all, or just decide to beat him on the scoreboard by getting him out?
