As Team USA prepares to take on the Czech Republic in the final game of Group A to qualify for the Olympic knockout round, betting has been pouring in for the Stars & Stripes. But one bettor may have gone a bit overboard in their support.
According to The Action Network, a bettor using William Hill has put down $45,000 on Team USA to beat the Czech Republic. While some people may see it as a chance for that bettor to multiply their money, that’s really not the case here.
Team USA are 60/1 favorites against the Czech Republic in tomorrow’s big game. As a result, that $45,000 bet will yield a mere $750 for the bettor if Team USA wins.
Given Team USA’s loss to France in Match 1 and their general shakiness all summer, it’s a massive gamble with very little potential payoff. Whoever made the bet must have absolute confidence in the Stars & Stripes.

All of that being said though, Team USA has no excuses to lose to Czech Republic tomorrow. The Czech Republic men’s national team Olympic roster includes just one active NBA player – Chicago Bulls point guard Tomas Satoransky.
The rest of the roster plays for various overseas teams, and few of them play for any of the international powerhouses either. They beat Iran in their first match before falling to France in a 97-77 blowout.
Team USA will have a lot of explaining to do if they lose this game. The winner of the game is a lock to play in the knockout round, while the loser will likely need some outside help.
At least we know that one person is willing to put his money where the team’s collective mouth is.
