Unfortunately, social media bullies have criticized Biles for her decision. Many have said her legacy is tarnished because she exited the event. FS1’s Colin Cowherd had a different reaction, though.
Cowherd spent a portion of his show on Tuesday reacting to Biles’ Olympics exit. In doing so, he compared her situation to Michael Phelps, noting that Phelps also dealt with mental health issues and “talked about suicide and retired twice.” In other words, the pressure Olympians face is incomparable to normal sports. Why? Olympians wait four years to spend one or two minutes competing for a country. Talk about pressure.
Biles is one of the best ever. And Cowherd thinks she shouldn’t be scrutinized for having one “brief moment” where she needed to walk away.
“I look at Simone Biles and Michael Phelps. They have pressure that Tom Brady and Michael Jordan never faced… I don’t know how they do it. Tip of the cap,” Cowherd said on Tuesday.
Take a look.

Simone Biles should be treated with the respect she deserves. The 24-year-old walked away because she believed it was best for Team USA.
If anything, Biles decision reignites the ongoing discussions about mental health. She joins Naomi Osaka as two of the biggest international superstars to walk away from their respective competitions in light of mental health issues.
Hopefully, this will create a more positive atmosphere surrounding the topic in coming years.
