Every 2-4 years the Olympics shows us some of the most incredible athletes in the world doing what they do best. As a former athlete in his own right, Kirk Herbstreit had some thoughts on which sport he’d love to compete in if he ever had the chance.
Taking to Twitter, Herbstreit said that as a skier he would love to compete in downhill skiing in the Winter Olympics. He said he loves watching the event and believes that the athletes who compete are fearless. But he also clarified that he never could have competed in the sport at that level.
“A BIG IF I could compete because most assuredly I could NOT. But men’s downhill in the Winter Olympics!!” Herbstreit wrote. “Being a skier myself I’m just in awe watching that event! #Fearless”
Herbstreit played football, baseball and basketball in high school and football in college. He never played professional sports though, and went into broadcasting soon after graduating from Ohio State.

But even in the prime of his athletic career, it’s doubtful that Herbstreit could have held a candle to some of the athletes in the Olympics (especially in track & field).
The same can be said of some of the top athletes in other American sports today. Lest we forget, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf came in last in a qualifying race for the Olympics just a few months ago.
Fortunately for Kirk Herbstreit, he won’t have to wait long to enjoy his favorite Olympic sport again.
The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are just six months away.
