Meet the Italy's biathlon star.
The 2018 Winter Olympics are underway. The game’s opening ceremonies aired on Friday.
The three-hour broadcast began at 8 p.m. E.T. and concluded 11 p.m. E.T. It wasn't without controversy.
Saturday brought with it the first day of medals. One of the events that dished out medals this afternoon was the women's 7.5-km biathlon sprint.
The biathlon blends skiing with shooting. Athletes must ski a 7.5-km course, while stopping at shooting stations throughout the course to hit targets.
One of the athletes who competed today stole the hearts of those watching. Italy's Dorothea Wierer didn't medal in the event, but she was still a crowd favorite.
The 27-year-old is in her second Winter Olympics. During the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Wierer and her teammates won bronze in the mixed relay.
