This summer at the Tokyo Olympics, Sydney McLaughlin proved why she’s one of the best track and field stars in the world. She arrived back in the United States a two-time Olympic Champion and a certified celebrity, with fans and supporters eagerly welcoming her as an American hero.
But that wasn’t the only warm response McLaughlin got once she was back in the States. She also received an engagement ring.
McLaughlin revealed on Instagram on Wednesday that she recently got engaged to her partner, former NFL wide receiver Andre Levrone Jr. She shared a series of pictures from the proposal and wrote a touching caption to her now fiancée.
“Till this day I still can’t comprehend how someone who posses everything I’ve prayed for, has finally come into my life,” McLaughlin wrote. “Our growth together exceeds what the dates on a calendar show. I fall in love with you more and more each day off of the strength of your faith…”
Here’s a closer look at McLaughlin’s announcement:
The engagement makes for a pretty life-altering summer for McLaughlin, who won two gold medals earlier this month at the Tokyo Olympics. She dominated in her specialty, the 400m hurdles, running a jaw-dropping 51.46 to beat out her American teammate, Dalilah Muhammad, and set a new World Record. She then joined forces with Muhammad, 800m gold-medal winner Athing Mu and all-time great Allyson Felix to run away with the gold in the 4×400-meter relay.
At just 22 years old, McLaughlin’s career is only just taking off as her Olympic performance built off of her two victories at the 2019 World Championships. With Felix likely headed into retirement soon, the 400m hurdler is poised to become the next face of American track and field.
But for now, McLaughlin will enjoy a bit of down time and of course, start to plan for a wedding.
Congratulations to Sydney and Andre on the engagement!
