Before: ESPN has been shaking it up on the broadcasting side of things ahead of football season, but nothing as surprising as the news that broke Thursday night. According to The Big Lead, longtime ESPN sportscaster Chris Berman will leave the network following the 2016 football season after 36 years with the worldwide leader of sports. Berman, who is in the final year of his contract, is expected to retire.

Who will replace Berman at ESPN is still not clear. According to The Big Lead, there's an internal push for Suzy Kolber to take over, though some see Trey Wingo as the perfect fit.

Either way, ESPN is losing one of its originals.
