A Saturday Night Live writer is in hot water after an inappropriate tweet during Trump's first day in the White House.
Over the past two decades, our country has endured dozens of horrific school shootings - some of the most notable occurring at Virginia Tech, Columbine High School and Sandy Hook Elementary School. So it's probably not a good idea to make jokes on the subject in the first place. But what SNL writer Katie Rich tweeted on Friday went way over the line.
Rich, who writes punch lines for a living, joked on Twitter that Barron Trump, Donald Trump's 10-year-old son, was going to be the first "homeschool shooter" in the United States. Needless to say, the joke didn't go over well.
Rich eventually deleted the tweet and made her account private. She has not released a statement on the matter yet.
It's fair to say that regardless of which side of the political spectrum you sit on, it isn't acceptable to joke that a 10-year-old is going to kill his parents.
It remains to be seen whether Rich will face repercussions for the tweet. But it's safe to say she lost the show a lot of supporters regardless.
