Just over two weeks ago, United States Women’s National Team star Alex Morgan revealed she was pregnant with her first child.
Immediately following the announcement, fans started to wonder what that meant for her possibly play in the Olympics next summer. Morgan and her husband are expecting the birth of their baby girl in April – just three months before the Olympics in Tokyo.
On Wednesday afternoon, Morgan made it clear she plans to play in the upcoming Olympics.
Here’s what she had to say, via ESPN:
“I hope to get back on the field as soon as possible. After having a healthy baby, I want to get back with the national team and look forward to playing in Tokyo. There are so many women that have been able to come back to their respective sport after pregnancy and continue to have a successful family while playing their sport that they love at the highest level.
I plan to follow in those footsteps and be one of those women who have a family and carry my daughter around as I’m going to the next city to play. And I still want to continue to enjoy the sport that I’ve been playing for all my life.”
Morgan dominated the field at the World Cup this summer, scoring six goals en route to a World Cup title for the U.S.
In 169 games for the U.S., Morgan has found the back of the net 107 times.
