Earlier this week, the 2019 Women’s World Cup kicked off with a match-up between host country France and South Korea, which France dominated with a 4-0 win.
If France and the United States both win their groups, they will meet in the quarterfinals.
Both teams entered as favorites to win their respective groups and are two of the top teams in the world.
However, one former United State Women’s National Team star made headlines when she questioned her former coach.
Former goalkeeper Hope Solo trashed head coach Jill Ellis telling the BBC Ellis, “cracks under the pressure.”
“Jill is not the leader I wish her to be. She relies heavily on her assistant coaches. She cracks under the pressure quite a bit. But often that doesn’t matter because the quality of the players on the U.S. team is superb.
…It doesn’t matter who is coaching us because we will find a way to win. The United States knows how to find a way to win in spite of who the coach is.”
The comments come just days before the United States is set to face off against Thailand in group play.
The U.S. Women are 7-4 favorites to win the tournament this year.
