On Thursday, Manchester United announced that Ronaldo will wear his iconic No. 7 jersey this season. He takes the number from Edinson Cavani, who wore it last season and in their most recent game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Cavani will now wear the No. 21 jersey instead.
The No. 7 jersey has a special place in Manchester United history. On top of being Ronaldo’s former number in his first stint with the club, it’s been worn by club legends such as the late-great George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.
But the No. 7 has also been a part of Ronaldo’s personal brand for half of his life. “CR7” is part of his brand logo, and has been since his Real Madrid days.

In his first stint with Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League title.
He was sold to Real Madrid in 2009 for a then-record fee and proceeded to build his legacy even more, winning two La Liga titles and four Champions League titles.
Ronaldo spent the last three years at Juventus, winning two Serie A titles but failing to win the Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo may be available for Saturday’s game against Newcastle United. If Ronaldo takes the field that day, he’ll be wearing one of the most iconic numbers in the club’s history.
