Now that the initial shock of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona has passed, the task of deducing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner’s next team has begun. Spoiler alert: It’s really not that hard to figure out.
While Lionel Messi can probably pick anywhere in the world to play, one team has been a frontrunner for months. Across social media, French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have emerged as the prohibitive favorites.
Countless articles have been written, detailing just how close PSG were to bringing Messi in. But with Barcelona and Messi now formally divorced, PSG can proceed.
PSG have reportedly offered Messi a $1 million weekly salary. The French club is also well aware that superstar Kylian Mbappe will be leaving after next season, so having a replacement in place is a necessity.
Then there’s the matter of who Messi has waiting for him in Paris. Messi’s former Barcelona teammate and longtime friend Neymar is on the team as well, and a reunion is something he is believed to be interested in.

I can only really see Messi going one place and that’s PSG in all honesty
As much as I’d love him to, I can’t see him coming to the Premier League, but who knows pic.twitter.com/i68FssGZXw

Paris Saint-Germain have rapidly risen to become one of the global powerhouses in all of soccer. While they did suffer a stunning Ligue 1 title loss to Lille this past year, they’re only one year removed from their first-ever Champions League Final appearance.
Bringing Lionel Messi on board would not only let PSG knock on the Champions League and Ligue 1 doors again, but potentially break it down.
Is Lionel Messi to PSG inevitable at this point?
