The 2021 edition of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover features a number of firsts. Among the historic appearances on the cover is tennis superstar Naomi Osaka, who dazzled in her first appearance.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Osaka retweeted her photos and cover image from the SI Swimsuit edition. She highlighted the fact that she is the first woman of Haitian or Japanese heritage to feature on the cover.
“First Haitian and Japanese woman on the cover,” she wrote, adding an image of the Haiti flag and Japan flag.
Osaka’s tweet is quickly going viral with thousands of her fans giving likes and retweets in mere minutes since she shared it. With over a million fans and a reach that spans the entire globe, just about everyone in the tennis world is going to see her.

Naomi Osaka has been one of tennis’ fastest rising stars over the past few years. She’s won a Grand Slam title in each of the last four years, including this year’s Australian Open. Osaka is the No. 2 ranked player in the world right now.
The 2021 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition is turning into a year of firsts. On top of Osaka’s historic appearance, two other cover models have made history too.
Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion became the first rapper to appear on the cover.
Model Leyna Bloom also made history by becoming the first transgender woman to feature on the iconic cover.
All three are well-deserving the of the prestige that goes along with it.
The 2021 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue is on sale July 22.
